KEYWORDS ✦

As you play the game, you will come across
KEYWORDS.

KEYWORDS are helpful short-hand for referring to key concepts, mechanics and rules. Essentially helping us cut down on the amount of reminder text we have to place on each card.

This list will be updated periodically to reflect new Keywords.

ÆL: This is shorthand for: Æther Level. You may also see it referred to as: Aether Level, AL, or stars. ÆL is represented by the little green cross/stars at the top left under the Card name.

  • As of Feb 7 2025, all cards going forward where necessary will represent this as: ÆL

Combat Damage: This refers to Damage only done by an Attacking Character (or Defending Character) dealing damage within the Combat Phase(s). It can be applied to Character or Player. Damage done solely by an Effect in the Combat Phase does not count as Combat Damage.

Control: Control refers to who’s side of the Field a card in play is under. If a Player has an Effect in play on their side of the field it is under their Control. This doesn’t always mean they Own or are the Owner of the card. Cards may exchange control over the course of a game due to card Effects.

Destroy: When a card on the Field in the Character or Effect Zones is placed into the Discard pile, it is considered: Destroyed. Cards are also Destroyed when their Orgasm reaches 0.

Effect Damage: Damage done solely by an Effect. It can be applied to Players, Characters or Effects.

Life Damage / Direct Damage: When a player takes Damage to their Life Points due to a Character attack or Effect. When a Character is unblocked in Combat Phase the damage is dealt to the Player. There are also Effects which are able to target Players and deal Damage.

Lose Life / Loss of Life: You will see this when a Card asks you to Pay Life for an Effect. This is a Loss of Life and not damage.

Out of the Game: When a card is sent to Outside the Game, or Out of the Game it can no longer be interacted with (unless an Effect specifies.) This is NOT referring to your Discard pile.

Owner: The Owner refers to who owns the card when the game is over. As the cards are collected and returned to a Deck, the owner will reclaim all cards that exchanged control over the course of the game.

Tribute: This term is not often seen on card text however it refers to the act of placing a Character in the Discard pile to Play a higher Level ÆL Character. It is not a Destroy, or a Discard. This is called a Tribute / Tribute Play.

Player Priority
When can a player, play cards?

Priority refers to the instance in which each player is rightfully allowed to play their cards. At the beginning of each Phase of the turn the ACTIVE PLAYER will have Priority. They have the priority to legally play or preform an action within their Phase before an Opponent ACTIVATE’s an Effect (Flash Effects).

For example: If it’s the ACTIVE Players Turn, and they are starting their ACTIVATE Phase, the Opponent will have to wait until the ACTIVE Player preforms an action. To which the Opponent may respond to via Flash Effect.

If no Actions are done, and the Phase advances, then the Opponent will gain Priority to activate a Flash EFFECT before moving to the next Phase.

How does Damage work?

Damage is calculated using the card’s Cum stat, subtracted from the defending / targeted Orgasm stat, or Player Life points. If a Character or Effect’s Orgasm stat drops to zero at any time, that card is Destroyed (Sent to Discard pile from play.)

Blocking/Defending Characters ALSO apply damage to Attackers in the combat exchange. Attackers aren’t the only one’s dealing damage!

Some Effects can also deal Damage. This is called Effect Damage.

If a Character is left unblocked, and successfully Attacks a player directly, that player takes X (Cum) damage, where X = the Character’s Cum stat.

A Players Life Point’s hit zero, it’s Game Over!

Can I surrender the game?

At any point in a Game, a Player may surrender the Game.
That player then Loses the Game.

What happens when a card is put into play by an Effect?

If a Card Effect asks you to put a card into play as a Character (from either your hand, from your Deck or other zones) you must play that card face up as a Character in an available Character Zone.

If you decide to play the card as an Effect (or the Effect specifies put into play as an Effect) you must play it FACE DOWN, and SET the Effect. You will have to wait for your ACTIVATE phase to ACTIVATE Effects. (UNLESS the card specifies, please read the card Effect text.)

If you are unable to place cards into the appropriate Space due to lack of space (example: All 3 Character Spaces are taken up and All 3 Effect Spaces are taken up) that card will then go into your hand instead as a replacement action.

The Stack: Which Effect Activation occurs first?

The Stack is an event that occurs when two (or more) Effect cards are activated one after another. Typically the Stack will involve a Triggered Ability, or Flash Effect being Activated, in response to a Player activating an Effect.

When a player Activates an Effect, the Opponent may choose to respond to the Effect activation with their own FLASH Effect.

When a Triggered Ability/Event occurs, the player’s Opponent may respond by playing a FLASH Effect.

The Stack resolves in First In Last Out order.

Example:

  1. Player A Activates an Effect Card.

  2. Player B responds by Activating a FLASH Effect.

  3. Player A then Activates their own FLASH Effect in response.

The order of Effects resolving would be:
    3.Player A’s FLASH Effect,
    2.Player B’s FLASH Effect,
    1.Player A’s First Effect Activation.
